Piano Express®

A Nationally-Recognized Piano Program for
Students of All Ages

The Program

What Is The
Piano Express®

A brand-new way to start piano — in a small group of students at the same level, learning together and having a blast.

Students love to explore, and they love company. Instead of sitting alone with a teacher for those very first lessons, Piano Express students learn side by side — each at their own keyboard, cheering each other on, with a teacher moving between them the whole hour.

The whole program is built to feel like a game. Students earn their way from one level to the next, play real songs within the first few weeks, and leave every class excited to come back. It’s the friendliest, least intimidating way we know to fall in love with the piano — at any age.

Parents, is your child a beginning student? Piano Express “small group” class is the key to how we train future musicians! Once your student graduates from the Piano Express program, they are ready for one-on-one private lessons as an Intermediate student with a solid foundation for success. We will place them based on your schedule with one of our amazing private teachers.

Citrus Park Music School is a licensed Piano Express provider — bringing this award-winning group program to Tampa families as our new flagship class.

After-school classes are available every day of the week, and homeschoolers have options for daytime classes as well. We are a direct Step Up provider!

The Method

Fun Piano Lessons
That Promote
Learning, Not Anxiety

Between school, work, and everything else, our students already have plenty of pressure in their week — and we believe music shouldn’t feel like another chore. Furthermore, modern research has shown that anxiety hinders learning.

01

Anxiety-Free Assessments

Students perform on individual digital pianos with headphones using MIDI backing tracks. Assessment software measures accuracy; 80%+ accuracy enables progression to the next assignment. Students avoid performing in front of teachers or peers.

02

Qualified Teachers On-Hand To Help

Just because we teach with a revolutionary piano pedagogy platform doesn’t mean students won’t receive as much personalized attention as they need. We have exceptionally skilled piano teachers in the room at all times, and they help students understand new concepts, practice drills correctly, and perfect their lesson materials.

03

Standout Students Still Thrive

Despite the group setting, advanced students keep progressing independently at their own pace — never held back by the students around them.

Curriculum

Six Levels, Green To Gold

Each level has its own color, its own milestones, and its own repertoire.

LEVEL 1

Green

Students start making music right away — able to play a handful of songs within the first few weeks. The entry level focuses on keeping a steady beat, studying the landscape of the keyboard, learning the alphabet letters of the white keys, and mastering finger-numbers.

LEVEL 2

Purple

After students build a foundation of musicality in Level 1, it is time to start learning to read on the Grand Staff — an introduction to traditional note-reading, the language of music.

LEVEL 3

Orange

Time to start getting fancy. Students are introduced to hands-together playing with a focus on chords, parallel motion, and contrary motion.

LEVEL 4

Blue

Students are introduced to slightly more complex rhythm patterns, hand positions, and finger patterns — through familiar songs as well as many authentic classics.

LEVEL 5

Silver

Students are ready (at last) to expand melodies to a full-octave range: mastery of full-octave scales and traditional primary chords, integrated into the songs so students see their importance from the very start.

LEVEL 6

Gold

Putting the chords into patterns — broken, waltz-pattern, and Alberti-bass — the perfect stepping-stone into intermediate repertoire.

How It Works

How Lessons Work At Citrus Park

What We Do Here

Students attend a weekly, one-hour small group. The first half hour is focused on student assessment; the second half hour is focused on musicianship, ear training, sight-reading, and theory.

Practice At Home Made Easy!

Every student gets app access with song-mastery features — practice is gamified, and the curriculum is aligned with RCM, ABRSM, and AMEB exam standards.

We have the complete recommended home set-up available (keyboard, Chromebook, and all cables) including technical assistance to help busy parents get set up for success at home!

Piano For The Soul

Beyond the notes: time at the keyboard reduces stress and builds the kind of focus, memory, and patience that carries into everything else your child does.
