woodwind Lessons

(Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute)

(ages nine and up)

Overview

Whether your goals include making your school’s top jazz band or symphonic band, auditioning for a marching band solo, or just playing for fun, our woodwind instructors are here to lead you to success. Our students spend time each week working on technical skills to improve their sound quality and intonation. They also have their favorite songs incorporated into the lessons, or can work on material given to them from the school band. Our woodwind teachers, through their care and expertise, will certainly nurture any student’s love of the instrument.

What’s the #1 reason to study woodwinds at Citrus Park Music School?

Our woodwind instructors are warm, friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student’s favorite type of music. Whether you’re playing in a marching band, a 6th-grader taking their first lesson, or a fifty-year-old returning to the trumpet after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

‍What styles of woodwinds do you teach?

We teach all styles from classical, jazz, marching band, and pop.

How qualified are your woodwind instructors?

Our woodwind faculty have received their musical education from such prestigious institutions as New York University, Indiana University, the Berklee College of Music, Oxford University, the University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, University of Tampa, Florida State University, Rollins College, and Stetson University. Many have toured the US and Europe, and bring over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons.

What will I learn from woodwind lessons at the Music School?

Our students spend time each week working on technical skills to improve their sound quality and intonation, but also have their favorite songs incorporated into the lessons so they finish with their favorite piece. Our woodwind teachers, through their care and expertise, will certainly nurture any student’s love for their instrument.

Do I need to purchase a woodwind to learn the instrument?

It is not necessary to purchase initially. Often, students try out a woodwind instrument, and either decide they want to switch to one of the other woodwind instruments (i.e. switching from clarinet to saxophone). Instead of purchasing an instrument (which can be more expensive than most instruments), consider a “rent-to-own” program. This way, you are paying towards owning your instrument, but can stop the rental at any time, or exchange for a different instrument. Also, we recommend avoiding cheap instruments made in China that are usually sold on Amazon. These instruments reportedly give problems with tuning and long term maintenance.  Click here to check out more information on our “rent-to-own” program through NEMC.
